New City

New City is the magazine of the Focolare Movement, which takes as its inspiration Jesus’ prayer to the Father ‘May they all be one’. (John 17: 21)

The Focolare Movement works to promote mutual understanding and respect through dialogue. This can take many forms, from the simple sharing of experiences between individuals, to large-scale international conferences. Whatever the level of the dialogue, the underlying principle is always love: which means openness to the other, getting to know them, and respecting them and their cultures and beliefs.

New City offers its readers the spirituality of unity which is the specific gift of the Focolare, and presents articles on a wide range of topics which encourage this attitude of openness to and respect for others.

Every month we will be publishing a feature article from the magazine on our New City Feature page giving those of you unfamiliar with the magazine an idea of what to expect. In April 2005 New City is being produced for the first time in full colour, and with an extra four pages, which is an important step in the development of the magazine. The aims of New City, as the monthly magazine of the Focolare Movement, remain the same as before. For many of you no explanation of these is necessary, but to help anyone who is unfamiliar with the Focolare and who is picking up the magazine for the first time, we are now including a regular ‘mission statement’. You will see two more ‘innovations’ in the new design: one is the first in a series covering the key points of the Focolare spirituality; and the other is a ‘Healthy Eating’ page. In the past, book and CD reviews appeared from time to time, but now they will have a regular monthly slot. All the other topics that have served us so well over the years will continue to appear.

We hope that you the reader, will be pleased with its bright new design and with the extra editorial content. We would very much like you the reader to feel that New City is your magazine and we want to be open to any suggestions and comments, whether they regard the articles themselves or, more generally, the range and type of subjects covered and their presentation.
